Let's Bab Korean Cafe

Hello Fellow Nom Seekers!

Let's Bab Korean café ticks all the right boxes.  Where else can you get a substantial tasty meal and drink for under $10?  It is situated opposite Holmesglen Tafe and it is my theory that good cheap eats can always be found near universities and tafes.  It's my go-to when I'm feeling hungry but broke. 

My favourite meal there is the Soon Doo Boo.  For the uninitiated, Soon Doo Boo is a tofu seafood stew/soup served with rice.  It comes in a stone dish and it's volcanic in temperature and in spice.  It's the type of comfort food that leaves you mopping your sweaty brow but at the same time you feel nourished and invincible.



The soup base is made from the Korean red pepper and there are bits of prawn, calamari, clams floating in amongst the silken tofu and vegies.  It comes with an accoutrement of pickles.  Today I was given a kim chi pancake and salad with sesame dressing.  They would also normally give a fried tofu with it but I seem to be missing mine and I was too embarrassed to ask.  Why was I too embarrassed?  Well because I also ordered an entrée to go with this and it was not like I was exactly lacking in food.  My entrée was the takoyaki.  These are more-ish little balls of squid coated in potato and cabbage mash and deep fried.  It was served with a lacing of Japanese mayo and sesame sauce. What's there not to love?  Could eat a couple of dozen in one sitting. 

Let's Bab comes with free-help-yourself Korean tea made out of roasted corn kernels but they also have a selection of cold drinks for purchase. 

A few tips:

• Don't fret if you can't find a park directly outside.  There is plenty of parking along the train line directly behind the restaurant. 
• It gets extremely busy on a weekend around 7pm.  So if you have a group larger than four, try and eat earlier otherwise you may not get a table.
